Pruning Workshop with Working For Gardeners

  • The Walled Garden at Old Lands Monmouth, Wales, NP25 4DY United Kingdom (map)

About the Tutor: Justine Gallaccio has worked as a professional gardener for nearly 30 years in a variety of Private Gardens and Estates. She has always had a keen interest in wildlife, and a particular passion for Orchards. Justine is also Regional Manager for Working for Gardeners covering  South Wales and borders.

About the Workshop: This workshop is an opportunity to gain hands on experience and knowledge about how to perform winter pruning for a healthy and productive orchard. The day will start with refreshments in the Victorian glasshouse in the walled garden and a brief welcome from Marianne, outlining her plans for the garden and orchard. Justine will then lead the day, beginning with an explanation about why we prune at this time of year, how to approach what can feel like an overwhelming task, and will then demonstrate best practice on the trees in the orchard, in the garden. The orchard has a range of young and more mature specimens including pears as well as apples, and the walled garden contains espalier trees which Justine will cover too.

About the Venue:
